Goodbye, Mr. Layton. And thank you.
I started this tumblr within an hour of the election results being announced. God, that seems so long ago now. I wanted to find some way, any way of dealing with the shock I felt at both Harper getting his majority and the amazing amazing news that the NDP were now the Official Opposition.
And it worked. Layton has been, was a rallying point for so many people. He shone out as a career politician who exemplified those words - honest and burning with a brightness that shone all the brighter in light of his dedication to his party and country.
I’m eighteen years old. I never experienced Trudeaumania. But this past year, I think I felt something that must’ve been close. When I heard he’d died, it hurt. We’d spent so much time building him up as this mythic figure, as the essence of what it meant to be a Canadian, that when he died our dreams broke with him.
His legacy is one of charisma, passion and determination. Jack Layton is the quintessential Canadian, but more than that - he is every Canadian. And he will be missed.
Thank you, Jack. Thank you for everything.

HIPSTER LAYTON!
You have made me smile for the first time since the election results were called.
That’s the idea - it hurts to cry, so why not laugh instead? (and then break down sobbing at the end of the day because WHY, Canada, WHY)Also, I absolutely love what the two of you have been doing, and they definitely helped me out during the election period. So there’s that.](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lklq68vYWk1qjfxa1o1_400.png)
